How to propagate primrose

How to propagate primrose

Primrose Seed Collection

Primroses bear seeds in May and June, and during this period, attention should be paid to ventilation and dehumidification. Because the seeds mature at different times, they must be harvested while they mature. In addition, the collected seeds cannot be exposed to the sun, but need to be placed in a cool place to dry, so as not to reduce the germination rate of the seeds.

Primrose sowing propagation

Sowing time

Primroses are mainly propagated by sowing. The sowing period should be determined according to the needs of flowering. Generally, they will bloom about 6 months after sowing. The lifespan of primrose seeds is relatively short, so it is best to sow them immediately after collecting them, or store them in a cool and dry place.

Sowing temperature

The most suitable temperature is 15-21℃, and it must not exceed 25℃, otherwise it will not germinate.

Sowing pot soil

When sowing, it is best to use a shallow pot and choose loose, well-drained fine soil. You can use a mixture of fine leaf mold and garden soil as the potting soil.

Sowing method

Level the soil in the pot, then mix the seeds with 4 times the amount of fine sand and spread them evenly in the pot. Because the seeds are relatively small, use a smooth wooden board to gently compact the soil surface. There is no need to cover it with soil again, which is conducive to the seeds' water absorption and rooting.

Seeding management

After sowing, water the seeds. Use the pot immersion method, place the entire pot in the pool and soak it in water. Allow the water to slowly seep upward from the small holes in the pot to the surface of the pot until the topsoil is soaked, then take it out. Then cover it with glass to help retain moisture, and place it in a semi-shaded place. It will germinate in about 1-2 weeks. Remember to remove the glass and then move it to a place with light.
