How to pot a bracteolum

How to pot a bracteolum

Preparation before potting

The time for potting is generally chosen from March to April in spring or from October to November in autumn.

The flower pots should be small, deep, and have large bottom holes, which are conducive to soil aeration and easy rooting.

The roots of the bracteata must be washed before potting. Soak the roots in clean water and gently brush them with a toothbrush or brush. Be careful not to use excessive force as it will damage the roots.

Then use scissors to cut off the dead leaves, yellow leaves, old roots and rotten roots, and keep the new young shoots.

Place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry, and then plant it in a pot when the roots turn white and develop fine wrinkles.

How to install the pot

There are two ways to pot a bracteata.

The first method is to place the bracteata with the roots facing up and the leaves facing down under the faucet and rinse it slowly with water. Grasp the top with your thumb and index finger, and press the little finger against the edge of the pot. Use branches to fix the roots. When placing it in the pot, the roots should not touch the pot wall.

Pour the mixed gravel into the bottom of the pot about one-third of the way up, then pour the medium-grained mixed soil into the pot four-fifths of the way up, then remove the branches and compact the soil, leaving no space.

Then pour large gravel into the flowerpot, leaving a 1.5 cm gap at the edge of the pot, and finally pour in bean-sized planting material, bury all the pseudobulbs in the soil, use a soil pressing tool to lightly press the planting material, and level the surface. After planting, it is best to place the planting material slightly higher in the center of the pot.

The second method is to fill the bottom of the pot with broken tiles first, then cover it with stones, which occupy two-fifths of the pot, coarse stone culture soil, 3-5 cm thick, and then put the bracteata in.

Stretch out the roots and do not curl them. Hold the plant with your left hand and add soil with your right hand, lifting the plant slightly while adding soil so that the roots can stretch out.

Then add soil and shake the pot to make the soil and roots in close contact. Use your hands to press the soil around the stem to make the middle of the pot higher and the surrounding areas lower. Cover it with a layer of moss or fine stones. This way the soil in the pot is not easy to become compacted and can reduce water evaporation.

Management after potting

After the bracteata is potted, water it immediately. Water it sufficiently the first time, and then control the amount of watering to avoid making it too wet.

Place the clay pot in a cool place and avoid direct sunlight for one month. It can be exposed to scattered light in the morning.

Pay attention to keeping the environment ventilated and breathable.
