Disease and Pest Control of Spoon-lipped Orchid

Disease and Pest Control of Spoon-lipped Orchid

1. Sclerotium rot

This disease occurs very frequently when raising it, especially during the rainy season. When the disease first starts, some white mycelium will grow on the base of its leaves, and its roots will also rot. So it is also very hateful. At this time, we can remove the contaminated soil in the pot, and then sprinkle a layer of lime powder to solve the problem. However, it is said that this is only a temporary solution and not a permanent cure. If you want to cure it completely, you still have to pay attention to regular ventilation and good drainage of the potting soil. If there are some seriously diseased plants, they must be burned.

2. Anthrax

This disease occurs all year round, so it is even more troublesome. It is usually more severe in the rainy season with higher temperatures. The disease starts from the tip of the leaf facing the rhizome. It is brown at first, then slowly increases in number, and many small black spots appear. In severe cases, the entire plant may die. Then we need to use certain chemical agents to spray and prevent it, so that we can kill it completely. In addition, actively improving some environmental conditions will also be helpful.

3. Sheath Rust

This is also a common disease, which usually appears on the upper and lower sides of the leaves. In some cases, small raised blisters appear on the stems, and even contain powdery spores in yellow, orange or other colors. This disease looks scary, but it does not directly harm them, and the leaves will not die, but it will make the entire plant grow very slowly, which is also very troublesome. What we need to do at this time is to cut off the diseased leaves on the one hand, and spray some medicines on the other hand, so that we can prevent and control it.

4. Scale Insects

A very nasty pest. I believe many of us have seen it. It usually occurs when the temperature is relatively high or the air circulation is not smooth. It reproduces very quickly, so it must be treated early. If there are many, spray with medicine. If there are a small number, just remove it manually.
