How many days does it take for celery to sprout?

Celery is a common vegetable native to the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. Because of its unique taste and rich nutritional value, it is now grown all over the world. So how many days does it take for celery to sprout? Let’s learn more about it below.

How many days does it take for celery to sprout?

Under suitable environmental conditions, celery seeds usually take 7 to 10 days to germinate. In order to ensure uniform and good germination of the seedlings, it is best to germinate the seeds before sowing, and do a good job of seedling cultivation after the seeds turn white. Sprinkle the seeds evenly in the soil, and wait until 5-6 true leaves grow before transplanting. This will usually produce high-quality seedlings.

How to grow celery seedlings?

1. Seedbed selection

Choose a seedbed with high sand content, sufficient water and good air permeability. To make the seedbed fertile, you can spread some farmyard manure and evenly plow the farmyard manure and soil.

2. Seed treatment

Seed drying: 5-6 days before sowing, dry the seeds for 1-2 days to increase the germination rate. When drying seeds, do not spread them directly on the cement floor to avoid scalding the seeds.

Seed soaking: Soak the seeds in clean water for 12-24 hours, changing the water 1-2 times during this period. Soaking seeds helps soften the seed coat and promotes germination.

Germination: Wrap the soaked seeds with wet cloth and place them in a place with suitable temperature (generally 15-20℃) for germination. Keep the seeds moist during the germination period and rinse them with clean water once a day. After about 5-7 days, the seeds will germinate.

3. Key points for sowing

Time: Seedlings can be planted and raised all year round in the south, but summer should be avoided. In the north, it is best to sow in spring and autumn, with July being the most suitable because the temperature is higher at this time, which is conducive to germination.

Method: When sowing, you can evenly mix fine sand with the seeds, and plant them by broadcasting. After planting, cover them with a thin layer of soil about 0.5 cm.

4. Seedbed management

After sowing, maintain appropriate humidity, cover with film and wait for germination. After the seedlings emerge, water them in time according to the soil moisture to keep the soil dry and moist.

5. Transplanting and planting

When the seedlings grow 4-5 true leaves, they can be transplanted into larger containers or grown in the field. Be careful when transplanting to avoid damaging the roots of the seedlings.

In general, the time when celery germinates is affected by many factors, but under suitable conditions, it will take about 7-10 days to germinate. Of course, during this period, special attention should be paid to doing a good job in seedling cultivation so as to cultivate strong celery seedlings and lay a solid foundation for the subsequent harvest.
