How to propagate lilac by cuttings

How to propagate lilac by cuttings

1. Time

The time still needs to be determined. We usually choose to perform this operation one month after flowering.

2. Branches

There are still certain rules for the selection of branches. Generally, the cuttings we use are tender branches grown in summer. What we need are new shoots with leaves grown in the same year, and they also need to be semi-lignified. Or you can choose hard branches, but if you choose hard branches, basically you have to use branches that have grown for one or two years and they need to be relatively strong.

3. Methods

①The length of the branches we use is about 15 cm. First, we need to cut off the leaves below and leave only one or two leaves on the top.

②After that, soak the substrate in indoleacetic acid with a concentration of 100 mg/L for eight to twelve hours. The main purpose of this thing is to ensure its rooting rate. After adding it, the probability will reach about 80%.

③After that, take it out and wash the cuttings with clean water.

④ If it is a tender branch, we can directly insert it into the hotbed, it will take root and sprout to become a new plant. Generally, at 25 degrees, roots will grow in about a month. When the roots turn from white to yellow-brown, we can transplant it.

⑤ If we use hard branches, we basically insert them into the seedbed and then provide shade. It will take about fifty days for them to grow roots. This planting is usually in the spring of the second year.
