Ginseng seeds planting method and time

Ginseng seeds planting method and time

Ginseng is a common medicinal material with very high medicinal value. Generally speaking, the planting cycle of ginseng is relatively long, usually taking 3 to 7 years to reach maturity and be harvested. Below, the editor will introduce the planting method and time of ginseng seeds . Let’s take a look.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose barren mountains, wastelands or farmland that are fertile, rich in humus, with good drainage and permeability, and slightly acidic or neutral soil. Sandy loam or loam is best. The land should be tilled one year in advance and then left fallow for a year. During this year, the land should be ploughed several times to mature the soil, and appropriate base fertilizer should be applied in combination with ploughing. About a month before planting ginseng, dig the soil into ridges, then turn the ridges over several times, break up the soil clods, and pick out debris.

2. Seed treatment

Ginseng seed embryos have the characteristics of slow growth and development and need to be germinated before sowing. Soak the seeds in clean water for 48 hours to allow the seeds to fully absorb water. Put the soaked seeds into the soil and place them in a warm and humid place. After 1-3 months, when the seeds open, they can be sown.

3. Planting time

Ginseng seeds can only germinate in a warm environment, and the minimum temperature must be above 5℃. Judging from its growth habits, it is best to sow the seeds between mid-April and early June when the temperature is suitable. This way, the ginseng seeds can germinate better after planting, which is conducive to growth and convenient for management. In the southern region, sowing will be around November. Because ginseng has a strong ability to resist cold, it can sprout if sown at this time.

4. Planting method

There are three methods for planting ginseng seeds : spot sowing, row sowing and broadcast sowing. Spot sowing saves seeds, distributes seeds evenly, covers soil to a consistent depth, ensures uniform emergence of seedlings, and ensures that the seedlings grow in a neat and strong manner, with a high seedling utilization rate. Row sowing saves seeds, promotes ventilation of the seedling beds, and facilitates field management. Broadcasting saves labor, but wastes seeds, the seeds are unevenly distributed, the depth of soil covering is inconsistent, the nutritional area of each plant is uneven, the ginseng seedlings grow unevenly, and the utilization rate is low.

5. Field management

In order to ensure the growth of ginseng, it needs to be given sufficient nutrients and water. You can use some natural organic fertilizers , such as farm manure, livestock and poultry manure, etc. At the same time, ginseng leaves should be trimmed regularly to ensure its healthy growth.

The above is an introduction to the planting method and time of ginseng seeds. It takes a relatively long time for ginseng seeds to germinate, which can be around 2 to 6 weeks. Under suitable temperature and humidity conditions, some ginseng seeds may begin to germinate within 2 to 3 weeks.
