How to prune Endless Summer

How to prune Endless Summer

Pruning time

Spring is the best time to prune Endless Summer hydrangeas.

Pruning methods

When pruning, you should choose older branches. After being affected by the low temperature in early spring, the growth of these branches will become very slow. However, the new branches on the old branches will grow faster as the temperature continues to rise. At this time, you can cut off the old branches at the roots of the new branches, and also remove the remaining flowers on the old branches, which will be conducive to the blooming of the plants next time.

Situations where pruning is not possible

Endless Summer Hydrangea is different from ordinary hydrangea. It can bloom on both new and old branches, and it blooms continuously. Therefore, even old branches should not be pruned casually. Be sure to wait until new branches grow out and then prune the old branches in spring.

Newly planted Endless Summer Hydrangeas or smaller plants should not be pruned as it takes a relatively long time for their flower buds to form.

Precautions

Many friends like to spread the remaining flowers on the soil surface, which can not only increase the cold resistance of the plants, but also prevent the flower buds from being frostbitten by low temperatures. However, here I would like to remind friends that they must be cleaned up in spring.

Research shows that Endless Summer Hydrangea is more cold-resistant than ordinary hydrangeas, and can bloom in the same cold environment.
